High Street Fashion Inspiration #1

New Look

AW14 shows summer colours are here to stay, still dominating the high street are the summery, pastel colours that remind us of our jollies. This makes autumn/winter fashion even more exciting as it adds another dimension into the mix, giving more choice and more options when layering outfits up.

This look above is smart casual, and could be worn in the day for work and then kept on for drinks in the evening.

Add a leather jacket, some black tights, accessories and a floppy hat and you're all set.

Halloween Make-Up !

Here are a selection of creative make-up ideas and inspiration for you this halloween, thank-you to my beautiful bestie Alex Devers for helping create most of the looks pictured below and for the photography!

All you're going to need to do these looks is some black, white & red face paint, a face paint brush (which we didn't have so used an old foundation brush), some black pencil & liquid eye-liner, brown pencil eyeliner and nude/brown shades of eye-shadow, black mascara, your favourite dark lipstick and your favourite bright lipstick (you can be creative here, we went with a extremely bright pink lip for one of the looks). All of these looks were done spontaneously with what we had available so don't go out spending lots of money! Just go with what you've got and make it work for you, add glitter if you're going to a party, and any accessories you want to complete the look.

Update: University, Blogging & Writing for the Student Magazine

Hi guys,

A quick update, i've been at Uni for about a month now, and I'm well and truly into my course. It's a very fast paced course and even though we're on week 4, some of my modules only last 9 weeks so it's intense, but it's exciting and fun. There are so many things I am excited for over the period of the first year. At the moment I am doing Journalism, Media Relations(PR) & a theory module in Media and Communications. They're all really fun and interesting and hands on, so it isn't ever boring, after Christmas I am doing my theory module in Journalism, PR and The Media, and my production modules in TV location and Events Management. I really want to do Radio studies & Photography too, but we could only pick 4 production modules :(! But the ones i've chosen this semester I have really enjoyed so i'm sure i'll have made the right choices for next semester too.

I'm also part of the Media group at Uni, and I'm writing for the University magazine, i'm interested in getting involved in the other aspects of the group which are TV, Radio & Photography. But at the moment i'm just doing the magazine, my articles have already gone online and a couple have been sent forward for the print issue which is due out mid November! I originally wanted to join and write for the Fashion & Beauty section, and my articles for print were on AW14 trends for both Women & Men. But I am now trying to write a variety of articles so that I can see what I like and am good at, I've written for the 'news' section and also the 'student life' section so far and hope to continue writing a variety of different articles for the different sections.  Read my news article here and my student life article here

My days are quite long because I commute into Uni which can take up to an hour and a half sometimes due to public transport and its many difficulties! So sometimes when I get home (sometimes as late as 8 o clock) I don't feel like doing anything but collapsing in front of the TV. So due to the amount of work i've been getting aswell as the long days, working at the pub, writing for the magazine & actually having some sort of social life, my blogging game has not been strong. I have been trying to blog when I can, but I don't ever want to resent blogging, and feel like I have to do it. I enjoy it so much I want it to stay as my hobby and not become a chore.

Thanks for sticking with me :)

7 Deadly Beauty Sins

Sleeping in your make-up

One of the ultimate sins we all commit. Sometimes, it's a late night and i'm all snug in bed and yes, I can't be bothered to walk to the bathroom to take my make up off. This is actually really bad for your skin, it can dry out your skin, give you spots & make your eye lashes brittle and worn. After reading an article on the daily mail website. It's made me think twice about sleeping with my make-up on.

Orange face, white neck. Foundation blips.

This is a sin that we've all probably had a disaster with at some point, normally when we're a bit younger. My advice is when you go to by you're foundation ask the ladies on the counter, they are trained and payed to help you. They will find the perfect match for your skin!

Not having a skin care routine

I shamefully admit that at the moment I do not have a set skin care routine. In the morning I wash my face with aloe vera soup and use boots everyday moisturiser before putting my make-up on and at night I use boots own make-up wipes. I do not use cleansers or any of the other fancy skin care routines that I read about on bloglovin and watch on youtube all the time. I am going to invest in a proper skincare set, and begin to add it into my daily routine as it does appear to be very beneficial, but at the moment my skin is being deprived.

Picking nail varnish off

This is one of the worst things I do, I do my nails all pretty and lovely then within an hour one of them is picked of. WHY? Urgh. I have no advice as I do not know how to help myself! Any suggestions?

Lack of sleep

This is definitely an old wives tail that we often roll our eyes at. But the concept of 'beauty sleep' is actually true. Late nights really do creep up on you around your eyes, causing bags under the eyes and a little bit of discolouring. It also means you have less energy when you're tired which means you're not as happy and as smiley, having an overall impact on your persona.

Fake tan hiccups

Fake tanning, you've either got it or you haven't. I haven't. I now just use the Dove Daily Moisturiser that every day helps you build and maintain a tan. If I'm going out say on a Saturday night, ill start applying the product every day starting the Tuesday before, this gives a natural tan, and as I'm pale anyway it works for me.

Neglecting products

We all know the excitement when we have a new product, using it quite a bit for the following weeks. But then, after a bit we neglect it. I always end up doing this, I LOVE something so much, then I get bored, and love something else, pushing the other product to the side. I hardly ever get to the emptying a product stage. Normally because there is just so much make-up and beauty products out there to choose from. This is bad for your bank balance as well as bad for you. When you rediscover the makeup you neglected months ago and start using it again, it could well be out of date, and you could be harming your skin or eyes.

Maintaining Long Distance Friendships

I've seen many articles and many blog-posts recently on how to maintain a long distance relationship whilst at Uni. Fortunately for me, I don't know much about this as me and my boyfriend are both still at home. However, many of my friends have left for Uni, and are now living in other cities across the UK. Therefore I feel it is appropriate for someone to touch on how to keep your friendships alive and how to maintain long distance friendships.

Firstly, I believe it is VERY easy to keep in contact with people in other cities. There are the possibilities of FaceTime and Skype, where you can actually talk to them as if they are in the room. There is also all the forms of social media including Instagram and Twitter where you can actually see what your friends are getting up to whilst away. In today's society it is extremely easy to keep in contact with people, after all a message will send instantly and a phone call can connect you instantly to them. Really, there isn't much excuse not too keep in contact.

Another point I think is important to emphasise, is that your friend in another city is probably having an incredible time, after all it is still freshers some places. They are probably in awe of the new city they are in, and really excited to be living this new life. Therefore if they haven't been in contact, don't be too put out. It doesn't mean they have forgotten you, it just means that they are excited and having a good time.

On the other hand, maybe your friends are really struggling to settle in, and could do with some familiar faces. As well as social media allowing you to see what they are up to in there new lives, it can also be very misleading, as obviously on social media people choose what they want to post. They wouldn't want to post that they are home-sick and upset would they? If this is the case they would probably really appreciate a friendly text or phone call. Make sure you show your friend how important they are to you, and how you really value their friendship.

Friendship is a really important thing, and to have truly great friends is a blessing. Therefore we should all make the effort to keep in touch, and maintain our friendships with people we've been friends with for years, regardless of where they live now.

First Impressions Of New Products

Bargain Alert! Yesterday, Rimmel London make-up was all 2 for £10 in Boots! I mean, how good is that? I was definitely in my element. I have been wanting the 'Wake Me Up' concealer for a while now after reading so many good reviews about it. So I thought, this is my chance, being as the offer was on I decided to get the 'Wake Me Up' foundation aswell to match. I got both products in the colour 'classic beige'.

First Impressions: I used both the products today for the first time, the concealer (originally priced at £5.49) is really easy to put on and blends into the skin beautifully, the colour is great, it hides blemishes without making it obvious that you have concealer on. The product immediately opens the eyes and makes the skin around the eye area a lot less fatigue looking and truly does wake the eyes up. Similarly the foundation (originally priced at £8.99) does the same, the foundation liquid is quite dewy rather than thick, which allows it to be blended into the skin really well, giving a medium coverage. The colour of the skin glows with this foundation on and acts as a really good base to then put on powder, blusher and bronzer. The two products work really well along side each other and I would definitely recommend them!

Also on my face today is many products i've spoken about before, and new to my collection is the Rimmel London (are you noticing a pattern here) Eye Brow pencil in 002 Hazel. This is so easy to use, and a really good colour for those of you who are blonde haired like me. Being blonde it is really difficult to find a match for my eyebrows without them being to dark or over the top looking. This is perfect shade for me, and I find the actual pencil is really easy to use too.
